The EU Info Centre in BiH and the Embassy of the Czech Republic to BiH organised a screening of the famous Czech film “Night at Karlstein“ and  opening of the thematic panel exhibition on the occasion of marking the 700th anniversary of the birth of Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor at the EU Info Centre.

Opening the exhibition, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to BiH, H.E. Mr Jakub Skalnik emphasised the everlasting character of the rule of King Charles IV.

“The personality of Charles IV was colourful and manifold, but most importantly he was a great statesman, diplomat and visionary – his idea of strong and centralized Europe, free of wars, is still modern and valid even in the present time”, Ambassador Skalnik said.

While the musical comedy from 1974, “Night at Karlstein“, directed by Zdeněk Podskalský portrays the times of King Charles IV in a somewhat relaxed and humorous manner, the exhibition of 15 panels focuses on his historical role of an ambitious, sovereign, shrewd politician as well as an urbanistic visionary.

The exhibition will be open in the premises of the EU Info Centre, (address: Skenderija 3a, Sarajevo) until June 24, on working days from 09:30 to 17:30.

Charles IV (1316 – 1378), King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, stands among the most exceptional personages of the Czech and European history. Throughout 2016, the year of his 700th birth anniversary, the Czech Republic will organise a variety of commemorative events, including movie screenings and exhibitions.
