On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative, hosted a reception for BiH media directors, editors and journalists on 30th March.

Addressing the guests, Ambassador Wigemark noted that enlargement is the most efficient instrument of the EU foreign policy.

“The Western Balkans, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, are high on the EU agenda, and we reaffirm our continuous commitment and support on their European path. The future of this region is undoubtedly in the European Union”, said Ambassador Wigemark.

Ambassador Wigemark recognised the importance of the role of media in European integration, reflecting on his personal experience gained while working as a journalist.

“As a former journalist, I strongly believe in transparency, openness, facts and reality. I understand the role of media in the European integration process in spreading the word on EU matters. I believe we all have a common goal, to see the country join the EU family”, Ambassador concluded.

The reception also featured a panel exhibition displaying 60 years of the existence of the European Union, in retrospect, provided by the Embassy of Italy in BiH.

The Treaties of Rome established a common market where people, goods, services and capital can move freely and created the conditions for prosperity and stability for European citizens. On this anniversary, Europe looks back with pride and looks forward with hope. For 60 years, the European Union has promoted peaceful cooperation, respect of human dignity, liberty, democracy, equality and solidarity among European nations and peoples.
