The EU Info Centre in BiH opened the “EU Infoteka” library offering specialised EU-related books on Tuesday, 14th March. The library will serve primarily the academic community, students, researchers, civil society organisations, journalists and others interested in EU-related topics.

On this occasion, Jan Snaidauf, Head of Political and Economic Section at the EU Delegation to BiH underlined the EU’s commitment to the development of higher education.

“The European Union recognises the role of academia in the policy-making process and furthering European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, the support to the development of higher education is one of the priorities of the European Commission”, Snaidauf said.

Snaidauf also noted the two ongoing initiatives in BiH, benefitting from the Erasmus + activity, the Jean Monnet Programme, which aims at stimulating teaching in the field of European integration studies.

“Apart from the Jean Monnet academic modules at the University of Zenica and at the University of Mostar, there is also a number of BiH universities, whose study programmes focus to a greater or lesser degree on European integration and EU policies. This library offers 30 book titles on EU topics that are currently in high demand. Since that none of these books is accessible online, the library provides a great opportunity for students who are looking for in-depth EU-related sources of information to access these free of charge”, Snaidauf concluded.

Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo Ms Nedžma Džananović Miraščija stressed that, since 2000, the University of Sarajevo has offered study programmes relating to EU integration, including a significant number of interdisciplinary programmes.

“The ‘EU Infoteka’ will serve primarily to us, the academic community and I am particularly pleased that we will be able use the books relevant for our research, as we all know how difficult has been to get hold of them until now”, Džananović Miraščija said.

The event gathered representatives of the academic community, civil society and relevant governmental institutions and students.

In addition to familiarising with the “EU Infoteka” online catalogue, participants had the opportunity to learn more about obtaining information from EU electronic sources such as EU Bookshop, EU Who is Who, Europeana Collections and others.

The “EU Infoteka” library will be open to the public on week days, from 09:30 to 17:30 hrs and located in the EU Info Centre’s premises at the address: Skenderija 3a, Sarajevo.
