Marking the International Labour Day the EU Info Centre organised a photo exhibition entitled “Invisible / Nevidljivi” in cooperation with the renowned BiH photographer Munever Salihović.

Describing the exhibition, the author looked back to the authenticity of the photos and his experience gained in the process of making this out of the ordinary photo exhibition.

“Many people ask me if the photos were staged, to what the answer is – of course not. All the photos were taken immediately after the miners have left the mine upon their 8 – hour shift and the positive energy they have radiated is absolutely staggering“, said Munever Salihović, the author of the exhibition.

Salihović highlighted miners’ difficult working conditions being the same as some 150 years ago, while, on the other hand, almost the entire country depends on their work since the coal they produce runs the power plants across the country.

The miners depicted on the photographs attended the exhibition, and the Technical Director of the Đurđevik Mine Enver Jagodić noted the peculiarity of the exhibition praising the author’s idea.

“The public is used to see miners only when some accidents occur, therefore I would like to thank Mr. Salihović as he has portrayed us the way we really are every day”, Jagodić concluded.

The exhibition describes suggestive portraits of miners that show the difficult conditions of this working environment. Yet, the photographer managed to capture the miners’ positive facial expressions and gestures with intent to present their enthusiasm despite the difficult work they perform.

All the exhibited photos are available for sale in the form of voluntary donations – the proceeds from sales will be donated to the fund that supports families of injured miners.

“Our wish is that all the funds raised are donated to a fund designated to help the miners. In this way, the support would be provided to them not only when an accident takes place” Salihović concluded.

The exhibition in the premises of the EU Info Centre, (address: Skenderija 3a, Sarajevo) will be open until May 20, on working days from 09:30 to 17:30.
