The European Union has continuously supported quality education, economic development and employment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, aimed at increasing the standard of living and well-being of citizens. Throughout this ongoing assistance, partnerships with local communities and civil society organisations have supported the efforts of local governments to create mechanisms and address key problems that citizens face.

New jobs, more efficient local government and quality infrastructure are integral to the achievement of better results and creating growth. More jobs and opportunities for the citizens of the country, especially young people, is one of the priorities of the European Union.

“Young people are ready and willing to be part of the EU integration process but they need help. They need the support of their schools, municipalities and their government. Quality education, matching skills to the needs of the labour market, and instilling a sense of entrepreneurial thinking will support the economic growth of the country. Through the support we provide to education and employment at the local level, we aim to have an integrated approach. Through such cooperation and the willingness of everyone involved, both the citizens and governments, we will have stronger rule of law, a stronger economy and better living standards. Our common view on how to move forward shows that this is possible and that we really can do better!”, said Khaldoun Sinno, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The title of the conference “We Can Do Better!” marked the conclusion of the Local Integrated Development project and showcased positive examples of EU assistance in the education and employment sectors in BiH.  Sustainable and responsible approaches by local communities within this and other EU-funded projects has improved the living standards of citizens in communities across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Experiences and testimonials of the direct beneficiaries of programmes and projects the European Union is financing showcase that the citizens of the country require quality education, new skills, entrepreneurial thinking and a supportive business environment to enable a stable environment and support the economic growth of the country.
