“Our goal is to bring the European Union closer to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The country is now starting the real work on the EU path. EU integration is a complex process and therefore we are aiming to communicate with citizens as much as possible’’, said Khaldoun Sinno, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in BiH during the opening the EU Info Point in Brcko on 21 September. He underlined that the EU will continue supporting the implementation of the Reform Agenda as it implies closer relations with the EU and creating more opportunities for the local people.

Brcko Mayor Anto Domic  underlined the importance of informing both citizens and institutions about the European integration process. “EU membership is our goal and relevant information is essential in this process. Citizens, as well as institutions have to learn how the EU functions. Therefore this EU Info Point is very important as citizens will have the opportunity to learn about the European integration of the country”, Mayor Domic said.

The EU Info Centre also marked the European Mobility Week with the cycling tour around the city attended by more than a hundred cyclists of all age. Every year, from 16 to 22 September, citizens across Europe mark the European Mobility Week, which ends with the famous ‘Car-Free Day’. This year, citizens of more than 2,000 cities are taking part in various events dedicated to sustainable urban transport. In 2016, the campaign is focused on smart and sustainable mobility under the slogan ‘Smart mobility. Strong economy.’

On the occasion of the European Mobility Week, the EU Info Centre has launched a smartphone application ‘Smart Step’ to promote the reduction of carbon emission by walking instead of using polluting means of transportation, and awarded the most persistent walkers and cyclists in Brcko with sports’ gear prizes.
