We kicked off April 2024 with our #EU4Youth flagship and, in collaboration with different elementary schools and public libraries, the Europe House Network launched Europe House Talks: A Literary Adventure in Bihać, Hadžiči, Brčko and Mostar in early April, in line with the European Union’s commitment to education and cultural diversity, and to celebrate the Day of European Authors and International Children’s Book Day, by merging the joy of reading with the development of socio-emotional competencies in children. In addition, we published 1 edition of our E2yoUth horizontal campaign, producing a video in cooperation with Young European Ambassador and climate activist Layla Jusko.
We also continued with yet another edition of our regular #EU4Culture Europe House event: BOOKED, this time with Namik Kabil, an acclaimed writer, filmmaker and screenwriter from BiH. In addition, we produced a video promoting the Europe House library.
Under the #OurPlanetOurFuture flagship, and in order to mark the Earth Day , we organised a workshop focusing on sustainable fashion (slow fashion) in cooperation with renowned BiH slow fashion influencer Aida Đapo Muharemović and BiH biodesign pioneer Maja Halilović. In addition, we published 2 editions of the campaign What Does Green Mean? emphasising the Earth Day key message of 2024: Planet vs Plastic, as well as sustainable water management.
Under the #EU4BiH flagship, we produced a seasonal animated infographic, promoting EU support to BiH in general, inviting citizens to take part in our activities and publishing 2 editions of our closEUp campaign, aimed at cooperation with and promotion of EUMS, this time highlighting Latvia and Lithuania. We also published 1 edition of our Did you know?/Apply! horizontal campaigns, announcing a Culture and Creativity for Western Balkans call (CC4WBs). In addition, we published 1 edition of our My EU Story horizontal campaign, marking International Romani Day and promoting activities focusing on Roma population inclusion in Bijeljina; as well as 1 edition of E2U horizontal video campaign, promoting digitalisation and informatisation of cultural heritage.
A large part of April was dedicated to planning and preparation of #EuropeDay celebrations. This year, the celebrations kicked off earlier than usual – already by the end of April. The spirit of unity and European closeness dominated the Europe Day celebrations across Bosnia and Herzegovina, headlined “Bosnia and Herzegovina, Always in the Heart of Europe” to mark the 20th anniversary of the biggest EU enlargement as well as the European Council’s green light for opening succession negotiations.
The activities began with a Gala concert of Beethoven’s 9th symphony organised jointly by Team Europe in BiH, i.e. the EU Office in BiH, the Diplomatic Bureau of Belgium, currently presiding over the Council of the European Union with the embassies of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and Spain, in cooperation with the National Theatre and the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert, which featured soloists from EUMS as well as renowned Beethoven specialist Maestro Jan Caeyers from Belgium, was broadcasted live by BHRT on 9th May.
