Dženan Kovačić, whose ambitious idea is to break the wall of tuberculosis treatment, will take part in the global finals of the Falling Walls Lab in Berlin in November, representing Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dženan is one of 11 young minds who participated in the national finals organised in Sarajevo for the first time with the aim of promoting exceptional ideas and connecting promising young talents from all fields on a countrywide and global level.

With only three minutes to present and defend their idea, in front of a jury of experts from different fields including journalism, academia, business and civil society, the participants faced the challenging task of proving that their ideas are worthy of being presented in Berlin, on a global stage.

“I am really proud we were able to bring Falling Walls Lab to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This shows that there are young people whose ideas are challenging, who are taking a step further and are making breakthroughs. It is very important to link up these ideas and the competition. The best ideas change the way we think, work and behave” said Christiane Hohmann, German Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina to the young participants.

Competition, such as that enabled by Falling Walls Lab, is a unique opportunity for BiH youth to present sustainable ideas for the development of society, supporting them in developing their ideas and solutions, and creating a better future for them.

“The European Union is supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina in innovation, research and much has to be done. When I see you, I feel confident. I see that the future of the country will bring great ideas, and, above all, solutions that we need! Be proud of your achievements, you are young, you are the future of this country and you have a future here. The EU is here to support you in this task,” said Nicolas Bizel, Head of Operation Section for Justice and Home Affairs and Public Administration Reform of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH.

Falling Walls Lab, an international competition, initiated in Germany on the occasion of the fall of the Berlin Wall, was organised in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the first time. The competition, organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the EU Info Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina with support from the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, gathered youth from the worlds of science, business, art and society.
