On the occasion of the International Planet Earth Day, in the EU Info Centre in Sarajevo today was opened exhibition of sculptures titled “Metamorphosis” by recognized BiH artist Sanela Husic – Musabašić.

The sculptures represent female nudes shown through three cycles in fifteen different forms made of biodegradable material that surrounds us every day, such as recycled newsprint, jute rope, wool etc., Celebrating the power of nature through the typical female characteristics. Curators of the exhibition are art historians Elma Hodzic and Amina Hamzic.

“With this exhibition I wanted to draw attention to something which we witness every day, and that is the neglect of nature. I made a series of sculptures that are biodegradable, which should in due course be found in nature, and thus completed the cycle long ago started on the ground, before they turned into raw materials, to the complete decay and restore the country from which will grow a new life, a new story, “said the artist.

Addressing the representative of the NGO “Eco Action” dealing with preservation and protection of the natural environment in BiH, Anes Podić said that the environmental situation in BiH worse than ever.

“In many BiH cities citizens breathe air that is the most polluted in Europe. Rivers continue to be polluted by the waste water of cities and industries, with only two percent of the territory under protection we are among the worst countries in the world. There is a danger that in the coming months, under the pretext of the need for short-term economic development, irrevocably destroy some of the most valuable natural BiH. areas, which would jeopardize any future survival of local communities, “said Podić.

The European Union supports the environment sector in BiH and it is very important sector in the process of joining the EU, and nearly takes up one-third of the acquis of the European Union. Support to BiH assigned to this sector in the first generation of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA 2007-2013) already amounts to about 90 million. This includes significant investments in infrastructure, in order to ensure improved treatment of waste water, prevention of further pollution of groundwater for drinking, reducing the risk to health, improved access to safe drinking water, improving waste disposal, all in accordance with the standards and demands of corresponding EU legislation on environmental protection.

Exhibition is open from 22 April to 04 May 2015, from Monday to Friday 09:30 to 17:30 hours in the EU Info Centre in the building of the EU Delegation to BiH (Skenderija 3a) in Sarajevo.

About the artist:

Sanela Husic – Musabašić born on 01 August 1985 in Banovici. She graduated in 2014 at the department of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia and Sweden.

Počeci obilježavanja sežu u 1970. godinu dok se obilježavanje na međunarodnom nivou ponovo aktulizirano 1990. godine. To je dalo veliki poticaj održavanju Konferencije Ujedinjenih naroda o okolišu i razvoju u Rio de Janieru 1992. godine, te su Ujedinjeni narodi 2009. godine proglasili 22. april Međunarodnim danom planete Zemlje.

International Planet Earth Day which is celebrated on all continents and is directed towards the protection of natural resources and environmental conservation. The beginnings date back to 1970, while marking on the international level again started in 1990. This gave a big boost to organise the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, and the United Nations in 2009 declared April 22 as the International Day of the planet Earth.
